My Mental Math Trainer

About this project

My Mental Math Trainer is a small, free practice tool for arithmetic you do in your head. Pick the operations you want to work on, choose how big the numbers get, and answer as many as you can. There are no accounts, no ads and nothing to install.

Who it is for

Mostly adults who want to be quicker with numbers: people brushing up on arithmetic they last used at school, and people preparing for timed tests where a calculator is not allowed. The easier levels work fine for children practising times tables.

How practice helps

Speed comes from recall rather than cleverness. Once the small facts are automatic, bigger problems break down into two or three easy steps, and short sessions do that better than occasional long ones. The techniques on the home page are the ones worth practising deliberately.

What is next

Planned: typed answers instead of multiple choice, a timed speed test, and separate practice pages for addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and remainders.
